On 17 March 2022, we had the pleasure organising a talk about childhood trauma. Here are some key takeaways from the talk!

Core Principles
Cultural Issues
Peer support
Safety
Collaboration and mutuality
Empowerment, voice and choice
Trustworthiness and Transparency
How can we help
Realise the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths to recovery.
Respond: Talk to the person respectfully, and ask appropriate questions.
Recognise signs and symptoms of trauma in the child, youth, families, staff and anyone who is involved in the system
Resists: Help the person not to back to having effects of trauma (Eg. Depression, anxiety, suicidal, excessive watchfulness)
What can I do
Mindset shift: Think differently about trauma and people who experienced it.
Constant attention and caring: towards people you know that are going through trauma
Compassionate: Being patient and understanding
Respectful: Don't discriminate and treat them differently
Being authentic: Be sincere when you talk to them
Self awareness: Be aware of your own experiences with trauma
We hope you have learned more about childhood trauma in this sharing sessions! Do comment if you have any strategies for managing childhood trauma!
Cheers!
The ECEIG Team.
